Maya Bruce, a dedicated senior on the Unionville High School Girls’ Soccer team, has worked extremely hard to perform successfully throughout her soccer career. Playing soccer since kindergarten, she has turned her passion into a full-time pursuit over the course of her life. She trains all year with her club team, Penn Fusion, which includes practices at least four days a week. Her rigorous training consists of technical and possession drills which prepare her for her tournaments and games on the weekends. While she’s training, whether it’s independently or with her team, she always has a competitive mindset where she is fully engaged both mentally and physically. Additionally, she loves to participate in small pickup soccer games during the offseason, to mentally prepare herself and to ensure she’s in shape the whole year.
Throughout her years on the team, and especially as a captain her senior year, she has focused on the importance of her team’s environment on and off the field. Her role as captain that she follows is to always set a good example for the underclassmen, whether it’s the varsity or the junior varsity team. She always encourages her teammates to put 110 percent effort into practices and how they carry themselves on and off the field. Her advice for underclassmen: “Always perform at your best abilities in practices to reflect on your performance in a game.”
As Maya Bruce prepares for her next chapter playing Division 1 soccer at the University of Pittsburgh, The Post wishes her the best of luck in both her academic and athletic endeavors.
