Over the past two years, the UHS Boys’ Golf team has achieved remarkable success under the guidance of Coach James O’Rourke. Their accomplishments, marked by a trip to the State Finals last year and culminating an undefeated season this year, showcase the importance of dedication and teamwork, inspiring the Unionville community along the way.

Senior Jax Puskar attributes the team’s success to “the real team environment,” noting, “we rely on each other for help when one of us needs it.” Junior Charlie Barrickman recalls “the whole team relies on you, but– you’re playing for yourself.” Barrickman believes that even when a tough match rolls around, if it ever does, it’s all about the team and focusing onwhat the players want to achieve as a whole.

During practice, the team is encouraged to take initiative, often going out on the greens together or individually. Freshman Eli Dukart appreciates the consistent coaching and his ability to look up to the upperclassmen players for encouragement. This mentorship fosters a sense of community, where the players can look to one another for support.

Coach O’Rouke, who has coached the team through two extremely successful seasons, believes it’s all about the role models, whether that's the teammate on your side or the coach you look up to. With upperclassmen able to lead the underclassmen, they have found that the team may bevictorious now, but in the future as well.

Younger members aspire to continue the team's successful legacy as they continue to learn from the upperclassmen and improve their game. Freshman Harris Stanislawczyk explains “as a freshman, I want to show up. Because I just want to [be there] for the team because the reality is, it’s all about winning the match.” This spirit of dedication extends beyond the golf course, as players inspire the other individuals and the team as a whole to improve everyday.

Overall, the boys’ golf team has had an extremely successful season; whether that between the coaches and players, or players to players, they have found a way to be undefeated while making the most of it.
