The 2024 Fall Play, Romeo & Juliet, was an impressive success for the high school. English teacher Mr. James Foster made his directing debut with the show, and it did not disappoint; hundreds of students and community members showed out for his rendition of the classic tragedy. The talented cast, including senior Marshall Gantt as Romeo and senior Lilah Brennan as Juliet, brought the beautiful play to life with impressive and captivating acting.
This version of Romeo & Juliet had a modern update;, the characters' grunge outfits and the city setting created a different atmosphere for the play, making it more comparable to today’s major cities. Exceptional performances include Bri Greeley’s representation of her character, Mercutio, who animated the stage with silliness and joy. Marshall Gantt (Romeo) and Lilah Brennan (Juliet) had wonderful chemistry as the two star-crossed lovers, making the play romantic and alluring.
The light crew, stage crew, and sound crew truly helped to make the play into the success it was, with different lighting effects and music that dramatically changed the surroundings. Major props (literally!) to the stage crew for moving around the set in a speedy manner to help Romeo & Juliet move smoothly.
As an audience member, Romeo & Juliet was a captivating play, capturing the happiness and heartbreak of the famous original. The direction, production, and acting made for a great fall play, and UHS students look forward to future productions! The cast and crew produced a great play this fall, and hopefully students came out to support UHS theater.
